However, the participation of historians in this area has not been studied systematically. This paper begins an exploration on this topic based on two issues: the initiatives related to the conservation and access to documentary heritage and the content related to archives and documentary heritage in historians’ training throughout the country. My central argument is that despite the enormous efforts in the historiographic field to rescue, preserve and make available different documentary collections, the training to undertake these tasks is far from being satisfactory. La preocupación en el campo historiográfico por los archivos ha ido cobrando cada vez mayor fuerza en las últimas décadas, con el surgimiento de nuevas tecnologías y con la implementación de políticas públicas destinadas a la conservación del patrimonio documental, entre otros factores. No obstante, la participación de las y los historiadores en este ámbito no ha sido objeto de estudios sistemáticos. En este artículo se inicia una exploración en torno a esta temática a partir de dos ejes: las iniciativas referidas a la conservación y acceso a patrimonio documental y a los contenidos referidos a archivos y patrimonio documental en los profesorados y licenciaturas de historia de todo el país. Mi argumento central es que, pese a los enormes esfuerzos en el campo historiográfico para el rescate, preservación y puesta en acceso de diferentes fondos documentales, la formación para emprender estas tareas dista mucho de resultar satisfactoria.
