This article analyses the figure of the Chaco sculptor and writer Crisanto Domínguez (1911-1969), paying special attention to his literary production. It seeks to reconstruct how Domínguez’s production is inserted in the incipient cultural space of Chaco at the end of the 1930s, and in what way can be found in his work representations that pretend to account for the “Chaco identity” in connection with the indigenous legacy. It also analyses the controversial case of the “Monumento al Indio” (Monument to the Indian), made by Domínguez in 1938, commissioned by the municipality of Resistencia, investigating the situations that led to this monument being “castrated”, removed from the public scene and finally disappearing, without the place where it was buried being known. The work thus recovers the specific modulation with which Domínguez thinks the indigenous from the Chaco, facing at the same time the problem of constructing a regional identity that articulates the different legacies of creoles, immigrants and indigenous people, aiming to overcome the historical stereotypes with which this territory and its population have been considered. |

En este artículo se analiza la figura del escultor y escritor chaqueño Crisanto Domínguez (1911-1969), prestando especial atención a su producción literaria. Busca reconstruir cómo se inserta la producción de Domínguez en el incipiente espacio cultural chaqueño de fines de la década de 1930, y de qué manera pueden encontrarse en su obra representaciones que pretenden dar cuenta de la “identidad chaqueña” en lazo con el legado indígena. Analiza también el polémico caso del “Monumento al Indio”, realizado por Domínguez en 1938 por encargo del municipio de Resistencia, indagando en torno a las situaciones que llevan a que este monumento luego sea “castrado”, retirado de la escena pública y finalmente desaparecido, sin que se sepa el lugar en donde fue enterrado. El trabajo recupera así la modulación específica con la que Domínguez piensa lo indígena desde el Chaco, afrontando a la vez el problema de construir una identidad regional que articule los diferentes legados de criollos, inmigrantes e indígenas, apuntando a superar los estereotipos históricos con los que se ha considerado ese territorio y a su población. Cet article analyse la figure du sculpteur et écrivain chaco Crisanto Domínguez (1911-1969), en accordant une attention particulière à sa production littéraire. Il cherche à reconstruire comment la production de Domínguez s’insère dans l'espace culturel naissant du Chaco à la fin des années 1930, et de quelle manière on peut trouver dans son œuvre des représentations qui prétendent rendre compte de “l'identité du Chaco” en relation avec l’héritage indigène. Il analyse également le cas controversé du “Monumento al Indio” (Monument à l’Indien), réalisé par Domínguez en 1938 à la demande de la municipalité de Resistencia, en enquêtant sur les situations qui ont conduit à la “castration” de ce monument, à son retrait de la scène publique et à sa disparition, sans que l’on connaisse le lieu où il a été enterré. Le travail récupère ainsi la modulation spécifique avec laquelle Domínguez pense les indigènes du Chaco, affrontant en même temps le problème de la construction d'une identité régionale qui articule les différents héritages des créoles, des immigrants et des indigènes, visant à dépasser les stéréotypes historiques avec lesquels ce territoire et sa population ont été considérés.
