description In the Tawantinsuyu, colours were not conceived as a mere luminous phenomenon, external and independent of the support on which they could be seen. They had multiple connotations and profound meanings, as well as agentive capacities that conditioned or determined their use in different contexts. With regard specifically to the colour red, we know that it was closely associated with the Inka through the attributes he wore - and were an expression of his authority - and also through the use of textiles in this and other dyed tones, as these were the exclusive patrimony of the sovereign and the elites who were allowed to wear them. In this paper we want to reflect on the reasons for the association between the colour red and the Inka and to study which other powerful beings were linked to this colour and why. We also want to investigate the meanings and properties that this colour carried in the Inka, analysing the colonial and present-day survival of the colour. We propose that red formed part of a complex religious and multi-evocative mesh and operated as an intermediary agent of intricate and fluid associative networks, but dense in meanings, relationships and affectivities whose centre resided in the guarantee of abundance.

En el Tawantinsuyu los colores no eran concebidos como un mero fenómeno lumínico, externo e independiente del soporte en el que se dejaban ver. Tenían múltiples connotaciones y significaciones profundas, además de capacidades agentivas que condicionaban o determinaban su uso en diferentes contextos. En lo que hace específicamente al color rojo, sabemos que, estaba estrechamente asociado con el Inka a través de los atributos que portaba —y eran expresión de su autoridad— y también del uso de textiles de este y otros tonos tintóreos, ya que estos eran patrimonio exclusivo del soberano y de las elites a las que se les permitía su usanza. En el presente trabajo queremos reflexionar sobre los motivos de la asociación entre el color rojo y el Inka y estudiar qué otros seres poderosos se vinculaban con ese tono y por qué. Asimismo, queremos indagar sobre las significaciones y propiedades que portaba esa tonalidad en el inkario, analizando las pervivencias coloniales y actuales. Proponemos que el rojo formaba parte de una compleja malla religiosa y multievocadora y operaba como agente intermediario de redes asociativas intrincadas y fluidas, pero densas en sentidos, relaciones y afectividades cuyo centro residía en la garantía de abundancia. Dans le Tawantinsuyu, les couleurs ne sont pas conçues comme un simple phénomène lumineux, extérieur et indépendant du support sur lequel elles peuvent être vues. Elles avaient des connotations multiples et des significations profondes, ainsi que des capacités agentives qui conditionnaient ou déterminaient leur utilisation dans différents contextes. En ce qui concerne spécifiquement la couleur rouge, nous savons qu'elle était étroitement associée à l'Inka par les attributs qu'il portait - et qui étaient l'expression de son autorité - ainsi que par l'utilisation de textiles dans cette teinte et dans d'autres, car ceux-ci étaient le patrimoine exclusif du souverain et des élites qui avaient le droit de les porter. Dans cet article, nous souhaitons réfléchir aux raisons de l'association entre la couleur rouge et les Inka et étudier quels autres êtres puissants étaient liés à cette couleur et pourquoi. Nous souhaitons également étudier les significations et les propriétés de cette couleur chez les Inka, en analysant la survivance coloniale et actuelle de cette couleur. Nous proposons que le rouge fasse partie d'un maillage religieux complexe et multi-évocateur et qu'il fonctionne comme un agent intermédiaire de réseaux associatifs complexes et fluides, mais denses en significations, relations et affectivités dont le centre réside dans la garantie de l'abondance.
