Thus, her approaches to the notion of time, her reception of Menéndez Pelayo’s work, and her agreement with Unamuno in the search for a national philosophy hidden beneath the Spanish literary canon are axes capable of explaining not only Zambrano’s assessment of traditional literary history, but also her disagreements with the established canon. Examples of this position are her reading strategies regarding the novel and tragedy, understood not as documents of a particular context, but as alternative forms of experiential knowledge and as an “other” history of Spanish literature and culture. A partir de algunos postulados de María Zambrano, puede afirmarse su inserción en cierta genealogía contraerudita, interesada en revisar las totalizantes utopías historicistas del siglo XIX. De esta forma, sus planteos sobre la noción del tiempo, su recepción de la obra de Menéndez Pelayo y la coincidencia con Unamuno en la búsqueda de una filosofía nacional soterrada bajo el canon literario español son ejes capaces de explicar no sólo la valoración que Zambrano hizo de la historia literaria tradicional, sino también sus disensos con respecto al canon establecido.
