Throughoutthe text we seek to investigate part of the trajectory of a historical figure, the indigenous Kaingang leader named Cacique Doble, whose leadership took place in the above-mentioned period and scenario. Analyzing Doble’s trajectory allows to examine the relationships this leader maintained withnon-indigenous, colonizing agents, and with the indigenous themselves in the struggle to hold their traditional territory. Doble’s movements across the Kaingang territory and  the political and diplomatic relations with indigenous and non-indigenous people, observed through historical sources, suggest a broader understanding of the concept of frontier, which in Doble’s particular case has proved to be a very dynamic frontier: a meeting place for different people, a point of communication and exchange among the various agents.

Este artículo se inscribe en el campo de la historia indígena, su marco temporo-espacial es el siglo XIX y el amplio territorio denominado Frontera Sul para las fuentes históricas utilizadas. El texto investiga parte de la trayectoria de un personaje histórico, el líder indígena kaingang Cacique Doble, cuyas actividades se desarrollaron en el período y escenario mencionados. En la trayectoria de Doble, también se observan las relaciones de este liderazgo con no indígenas, los agentes colonizadores, y además con otros indígenas luchando por mantener su territorio tradicional. Los movimientos de Doble por territorio kaingang, sus relaciones políticas y diplomáticas con pueblos indígenas y no indígenas, observados a través de fuentes históricas, sugieren una comprensión más amplia del concepto de frontera que, en este caso particular, resultó ser una frontera muy dinámica, un lugar de encuentro entre diferentes pueblos, un punto de comunicación y diversos intercambios entre diferentes agentes. O presente artigo se insere no campo da história indígena e toma por recorte temporal o século XIX, e o amplo território denominado Fronteira Sul pelas fontes históricas utilizadas no estudo. No texto buscamos investigar parte da trajetória de um personagem histórico, a liderança indígena Kaingang Cacique Doble, cuja atuação desenvolveu-se no período e no cenário mencionados. Ao olhar para a trajetória de Doble, também observarmos as relações que essa liderança manteve com os não-indígenas, agentes colonizadores, e também com os próprios indígenas na luta pela manutenção de seu território tradicional. Os deslocamentos de Doble pelo território Kaingang, as relações de naturezas políticas e diplomáticas com indígenas e não-indígenas, observados através das fontes históricas, nos sugerem uma compreensão mais ampla sobre o conceito de fronteira que, no caso particular de Doble, se revelou uma fronteira muito dinâmica, um local de encontro entre diferentes, posto de comunicação e trocas diversas entre os diversos agentes.
