First we present a historiographical balance regarding the interest aroused by the material existence of the Order. Then we focus in the main sources of funding for the eighteenth century, the problems generated by the friar’s secularization and the new economic management adopted by the Order in the early nineteenth century. The Bourbon policy of open predilection towards the secular clergy did not particularly affect the economic development of the Franciscan Order since they added modern form of financing -such as investments- to the traditional ones. As a consequence, they were able to overcome their economic problems and could avoid material poverty. El artículo analiza la realidad económica de la Orden franciscana, en el contexto de la administración Borbónica, con la finalidad de observar el concepto de pobreza establecido en las normativas de comienzos del siglo XVII. En primer término presentamos un balance historiográfico respecto al interés que ha suscitado la existencia material de la Orden. Luego, nos adentramos en las principales fuentes de financiamiento para el siglo XVIII, en los problemas que generó la secularización de los frailes y las nuevas formas de administración económica adoptadas por la Orden en los inicios del siglo XIX. La política de los Borbones, de abierta predilección por el clero secular, no afectó mayormente el desenvolvimiento económico de la Orden franciscana. A las tradicionales formas de financiamiento sumaron otras más modernas, como las inversiones, con las cuales lograron no solo sortear los problemas económicos sino también vivir lejos de la pobreza material. Este artigo analisa a realidade econômica da Ordem Franciscana no contexto da administração Bourbon, com o objetivo de examinar o conceito de pobreza estabelecido nos regulamentos do início do século XVII. Primeiramente, apresentamos um panorama historiográfico do interesse despertado pela existência material da Ordem. Em seguida, aprofundamos as principais fontes de financiamento do século XVIII, os problemas gerados pela secularização dos frades e as novas formas de administração econômica adotadas pela Ordem no início do século XIX. A política Bourbon, que favorecia abertamente o clero secular, não afetou significativamente o desenvolvimento econômico da Ordem Franciscana. Às formas tradicionais de financiamento, eles adicionaram outras mais modernas, como os investimentos, com as quais conseguiram não apenas superar os problemas econômicos, mas também viver longe da pobreza material.
