What happens if we fill the streets and laughter with historicity and gender? From a feminist anthropology, I analyze the genderization process of street clown and public space, from the resurgence of the street circus in the 90s to the present in Buenos Aires. Life stories of a group of women who were pioneers in street clown are used to reflect on the way in which their subjectivities were constituted through the specific experience of occupying public space as clowns on a daily basis at a time when that was male territory. Finally, I analyze the transformations that emerged from the meeting of feminist activism and the circus since 2017 in the heat of the fight for legal abortion.
