El artículo presenta algunas propuestas de análisis sobre el desarrollo del turismo en tanto meta para alcanzar el progreso, con especial acento en los países de América Latina. Se parte de la idea que el sector del turismo no es ajeno a los distintos enfoques y procesos que comprenden a las nociones generales del desarrollo y a las distintas concepciones que a través de las décadas se presentan y que, para poder incorporarlo al discurso sobre el desarrollo, necesita ser analizado e interpretado. Indaga ciertos aportes críticos respecto de las ideas sobre el desarrollo para que permitan (re) pensar perspectivas bajo nuevos parámetros conducentes a lograr beneficios más equitativos, a partir de reflexionar sobre los distintos enfoques que el desarrollo del turismo puede asumir y teniendo en cuenta las circunstancias de sus avances. El ensayo inicia con el análisis conceptual y propone un recorrido por los enfoques del desarrollo, con las ideas instrumentadas en América Latina, y finaliza con su incidencia en el turismo. The article presents some proposals of analysis on the development of tourism as a goal to achieve progress, with special emphasis on Latin American countries. Itis based on the idea that the tourism sector is not alient o the different approaches and processes that comprise the general notions of development and the different conceptions that through the decades are presented and that, to be able to incorporate it to the discourse on the development, needs to be analyzed and interpreted. Some critical contributions to development ideas are explored in order to reason and reflect on the different approaches that the development of the tourism may assume, rethinking perspectives under new conducive parameters to achieving more equitable benefits, and taking into account the circumstances of the ir progress.
