For many years, there have been manuals that support spontaneous or planned housing self-production processes, providing knowledge to improve them. With the return of democracy in Argentina in 1983, with financing from international organisations and dialogue with various actors, who lived in low-income neighborhoods, the initiative of the Manuales Prácticos de Construcción, promoted by architect Jaime Nisnovich, emerged. These were the beginnings of what would become the most consulted construction manual in the country and an adventure that continues to the present day, focusing on a public that is difficult to access through public policies: the self-builder and/or self-manager of their own homes through their own savings or credits,. a figure that has populated and continues to occupy large areas of the country. This article reconstructs the history of Nisnovich's manuals, in dialogue with historical and current debates on the self-construction of housing and the role of architecture. |

Desde hace muchos años, existen manuales que acompañan procesos de autoproducción de vivienda, espontáneos o planificados, brindando conocimientos para mejorarlos. Con la vuelta de la democracia en 1983 en Argentina, el financiamiento de organismos internacionales y el diálogo con diversos actores que habitaban las barriadas populares, emergió la iniciativa de los Manuales Prácticos de Construcción impulsados por el arquitecto Jaime Nisnovich. Era el inicio de lo que se convertiría en el manual de construcción más consultado del país y una aventura que continúa hasta la actualidad, apuntando a un público difícil de llegar con las políticas públicas: el autoconstructor y/o autogestor de sus viviendas con ahorro propio o créditos, una figura que ha poblado y puebla extensas áreas del país. Este artículo reconstruye la historia de los manuales de Nisnovich, en diálogo con debates históricos y actuales sobre la autoconstrucción de la vivienda y el papel de la arquitectura. Há muitos anos, existem manuais que acompanham os processos de autoprodução habitacional espontâneos ou planejados, fornecendo conhecimento para melhorálos. Com o retorno da democracia na Argentina em 1983, o financiamento de organizações internacionais e o diálogo com diversos atores que viviam em bairros de baixa renda, surgiu a iniciativa dos Manuales Prácticos de Construcción, promovida pelo arquiteto Jaime Nisnovich. Esse foi o início do que se tornaria o manual de construção mais consultado do país e uma aventura que continua até hoje, voltada para um público difícil lcançar com políticas públicas: o autoconstrutor e/ou autogerenciador de suas próprias casas por meio de suas próprias economias ou créditos, uma figura que povoou e continua a povoar grandes áreas do país.
