Soil bacteria known as phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB), have the ability to solubilize insoluble forms of inorganic P mainly by producing organic acids and chelating calcium, iron or aluminum oxides. Inoculation with PSB selected to increase the native population can mobilize P from poorly available sources and thus improve plant growth. The aim of this study was to evaluate the survival and competition in soil of two PSB native to lateritic soil, Enterobacter aerogenes R4M-A and Burkholderia caledonica R4M-O, and to analyze the effect of inoculation on the growth of Newhall orange (C. sinensis) plants. Strains Enterobacter aerogenes R4M-A and Burkholderia caledonica R4M-O were able to survive and compete effectively in soil, maintaining a minimum soil population of 107/108 CFU g-1 after 90 days of inoculation. Inoculation and fertilization showed a positive effect on plant growth, promoting greater total biomass. Una de las principales limitantes de la producción en los suelos lateríticos es la baja disponibilidad de fósforo (P). Las bacterias del suelo conocidas como bacterias solubilizadoras de fosfato (PSB) tienen la capacidad de solubilizar formas insolubles de P inorgánico principalmente mediante la producción de ácidos orgánicos y la quelación de óxidos de calcio, hierro o aluminio. La inoculación con PSB seleccionadas para aumentar la población nativa puede movilizar P a partir de fuentes poco disponibles y por lo tanto mejorar el crecimiento de las plantas. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la supervivencia y la competencia en el suelo de dos PSB nativas de suelo laterítico, Enterobacter aerogenes R4M-A y Burkholderia caledonica R4M-O, y analizar el efecto de la inoculación sobre el crecimiento de plantas de naranjo (Citrus sinensis L Osbeck) variedad Newhall. Las cepas Enterobacter aerogenes R4M-A y Burkholderia caledonica R4M-O fueron capaces de sobrevivir y competir eficazmente en el suelo, manteniendo una población mínima en suelo de 107/108 UFC g-1 luego de 90 días de inoculadas. Se evidenció un efecto positivo de la inoculación y la fertilización sobre el crecimiento vegetal promoviendo una mayor biomasa total. Instituto Agrotécnico "Pedro M.
