description Becoming military —army officer— means taking a profession as his own, which requires learning the basic rules of belonging to this organization. This article analyzes the arguments built by three cohorts of Army officers in relation to the motives that led them to decide to pursue this career, as well as describe the routes they built with their families that drove them to choose the military profession. To meet these objectives we rely on the biographical method, using biographical interview. We interviewed 26 officers from three cohorts: graduates before 1973; graduates between 1974 and 1985 and graduated after 1986. At the time of fieldwork these soldiers were stationed in the Military School of the Nation and the Army Superior Institute (IESE).
