We discuss several Ansätze for the Lagrange multipliers that allow the inclusion of the boundary conditions into the variational principle. It is found that under a given Ansatz, a dynamical, microscopic interpretation of the pseudopotential can be put forward. A comparison between this situation and the coherent approximation induced by the use of the correlation function is also presented.
