Cerro Chapelco Chico, Neuquén. Pectolite occurs in metabasalts of the Andesitic Formation of Cerro Chapelco Chico. Neuquén. Being a hydrothermal luminiscent mineral it is a useful indicator of the presence of ore deposits. It was deposited by hydrothermal fluids in veins and amygdales, in association with prehnite, laumontite, and smectite. It has a very variable habit, in most cases being found as associations of radiating blades and in globular masses, but is less commonly found as isolated idiomorphic forms of pseudotetragonal habit along the crystallographic b axis. It forms protrusions yielding a starred form, when it is known as «stellite». The crystallographic forms found are: 100. 001 and hkO. It shows simple twins with a composition plane parallel to 100 and two perpendicular cleavages 100 and 001. With a stability field ranging between 250° and 350°C at pressures below 0.3 kbar, it constitutes a good geobarometer.
