An occurrence model for seafloor nodule deposits

The present work proposes a bidimensional mathematical nondeterministic model to study the abundance and size of sedimentary resources applied to the investigation of nodules and pellets on the ocean floor. A short program for this type of resource is presented. The model considers the size and spac...

A short program for this type of resource is presented. The model considers the size and spacing of nodules as random variables. Random distributions of representative cross sections in thin layers also are modeled. As an example of these underwater structures, we consider deposits of phosphorite nodules. We calculate: 1. (1) The average surface concentration of large deposits of phosphorite nodules. 2. (2) The reserves of seafloor phosphorites in the world. These analytical results agree with the ones obtained from orebodies discovered earlier. © 1995. Fil:Silbergleit, V.M. Universidad de Buenos Aires.
