Research was carried out following a multidisciplinary perspective which included analyses of the chemical composition of beads, techno-morphological studies of pottery, basketry and textile artifacts, and archaeobotanical studies. These studies were complemented with anthropological and archaeological information of specific social practices related to this particularly context. We propose a non-local provenance of the whole mortuary assemblage that appears to be somehow linked to eastern lowland communities, evidencing social interaction between lowland and puna groups. Although non-local elements had been recorded in funerary contexts in the area, we propose that this complex trait-the container plus its content-was moved as a whole from a distant area, providing a new look to Antofagasta de la Sierra archaeology that has significant implications for the local and regional archaeology.
